Our long-awaited REMOTE Immersion kicks off in a few days in Cuenca (October 16-20), one of the most charming cities in Ecuador. Year after year, we seek out magical, remote destinations off the traditional tourist trail to celebrate and showcase the diversity of Latin America. After exploring the Brazilian Amazon (2016), Chilean Patagonia (2017), the coast of Costa Rica (2018), the mountains of Colombia (2019) and the desert ravines of Argentina (2022), our itinerant boutique travel show now comes to the fascinating Ecuadorian Andes.
Our preparations for REMOTE Immersion Cuenca began over a year ago and, from the beginning, we were fortunate to be warmly embraced by the Cuenca community. We have been working all this time, with the valuable support of the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador and the Fundación Turismo para Cuenca, to hold a stimulating event that generates positive impacts, both for our host destination and our beloved REMOTERS.
Immersing ourselves in Cuenca
Our host destinations are a big part of our event’s singularity and Cuenca is no different. Considered “the treasure of the Andes” and recognized as a World City of Crafts by the World Crafts Council, Cuenca has diverse traditions, astonishing landscapes, distinctive cuisine and preserved architecture, which we will be able to unveil in the coming days.
Cuenca is the third largest city in Ecuador, with solid infrastructure and an increasingly developed tourism sector. This time, we will be a little more connected, but keeping our intimate and familiar atmosphere. The Historic Center of Cuenca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will be our headquarters, where we can walk the cobblestone streets in peace and explore their most picturesque corners. After the morning meetings, we will also have time to visit charming places on the outskirts of the city.
As in previous years, REMOTE Immersion Cuenca will address four main pillars: business meetings, activities and experiences, content and social events. Our aim is not only to offer participants the opportunity to do business and get to know the destination, but also to have fun and create lasting bonds and connections with one another. Our team has prepared an intense program schedule that combines moments of networking, immersive experiences, learning and relaxation.
In the afternoons, all REMOTERS will join in special curated outdoor activities, cultural tours and culinary experiences and embrace a little more of the essence of Cuenca. This year’s activities include hikes in Cajas National Park, a bike tour, horseback riding, an Ecuadorian cooking class, chocolate and gin pairing, rum tasting, workshops in jewelry, ikat fabric and ceramics, the toquilla straw hat experience, community rituals and more.

All participants had the opportunity to pre-select their meetings according to their interests and similarities, but moments of exchange, networking and connections take place all throughout the four-day event.
Celebrating the joy of life
REMOTE Immersion Cuenca is celebrating life, happiness, health and transformative travel. The theme “The Joy of Life: healthy experiences for travelers, hosts and the planet” will inspire our traditional REMOTE Talks & Seeds series, reminding us of our mission to encourage travel that generates positive impacts for people and planet. Our speakers will inspire us with innovative, uplifting stories about overcoming obstacles, preserving roots, the pioneering spirit, self-care and healing the planet.

Embracing sustainable tourism
Attentive to global emergencies and knowing that we can no longer avoid our responsibility to people and the planet, this year we have advanced our sustainability strategy, with the support of Regenera NGO . Inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council Criteria, we worked together with local entrepreneurs and providers to re-access and improve their sustainability practices.
We also keep working to have an event with minimal impacts, avoiding single-use plastics and unnecessary waste, promoting local and fair purchases, and reducing and offsetting our carbon emissions. At the same time, we seek to expand our benefits to the local community. In addition to our traditional series of open free talks, the REMOTE Legacy, which takes place on October 18, we believe that the sustainability consultancy with hotels, restaurants and local activities can help in the journey towards a more prosperous society in Cuenca.
