Introducing remote, little-known natural gems into the circuit of special places for small-scale sustainable international travel in Latin America is one of REMOTE’s core missions. We are proud to have done so in the enchanting Chapada dos Veadeiros — a mystical landscape of majestic waterfalls in the state of Goiás, virtually the geographic heart of Brazil. It was so nice to host REMOTERS in the staff’s home country nine years after our inaugural event in the Amazon.
A three-hour drive from Brasília, Chapada dos Veadeiros hosted a challenging REMOTE Immersion, built entirely from scratch. As this was the first time the region welcomed an international boutique travel show with around 200 guests, we had to adapt all local venues for the meetings.
For example, not one of the venues were equipped with stages or seating for the ceremonies and content sessions. Drawing on nearly a decade of experience producing REMOTE events in undiscovered refuges across Latin America — and with tremendous support from the host destination Goias Tourism Board and Visit Brasil —, our Production Team found a solution: we rented a grassy plot of land and installed a practical, welcoming tent.
That became the place where, in the evenings, eight speakers and panelists explored themes reflecting Brazil’s diversity as part of REMOTE Talks & Seeds — Indigenous tourism and heritage, Cerrado wildfires and conservation, sustainable architecture and Afro-tourism. And, on one evening, nine Portuguese speakers at REMOTE Legacy addressed the theme How can Chapada dos Veadeiros better prepare for international tourism?
A conversation we hope will prove valuable as REMOTE’s international travel designers begin sending conscious travelers to discover the region.
