Every REMOTE Immersion is a shared journey—an invitation to collaborate, listen deeply, and co-create with the communities that welcome us. We arrive at each destination with open hearts and a shared intention to co-create something meaningful. Our time may be brief, but we aim to leave behind a positive lasting trace, honoring the hospitality, knowledge, and generosity we receive with respect, gratitude, and purposeful action.
In Antigua, we’re putting our REMOTE Sustainability Strategy into motion, guided by the principles of responsible and regenerative tourism. In partnership with 11 inspiring host hotels, our stellar DMC Viaventure Central America, and our dedicated REMOTE team, we’re working to reduce our environmental footprint while amplifying our positive impact. Antigua is not just our host—it’s our partner in building a more inclusive, respectful, and regenerative future for tourism.
We invite you, REMOTER, to join this mission by embracing conscious travel choices, connecting with local culture, and helping Antigua thrive—for its people and for future visitors.
A strategy rooted in purpose and place
Since 2023, we’ve deepened our sustainability journey through a strategy developed by Regenera NGO, one inspired by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Criteria and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. More than a framework, it’s a living approach that is adapted to the specific context of each host community, shaped by its people, culture, and environmental context.
In Antigua, we’ve tailored this strategy to reflect the city’s vibrant heritage, community perspectives, and sustainability challenges. At its heart is genuine collaboration. We begin by listening—through open conversations with local providers—and together we co-create actions that are meaningful and grounded in local realities.
Together with our local providers, we’ve prioritized efforts to minimize waste and single-use plastics, conserve water and energy, and celebrate local culture and fair trade—all while supporting the local community’s well-being.
We’ve been truly inspired by what’s already happening in Antigua. Sustainability is not just an aspiration—it’s already underway, and many of our partners are leading with innovative practices that exceed expectations. We can’t wait for you to discover them—and perhaps return home with fresh ideas and renewed inspiration!

Climate action that cares for people
This year, we’re offsetting 70 tons of CO₂ generated by event logistics, accommodations, meals, ground transportation, and team flights by supporting the Estufas Chispa initiative, which installs clean cookstoves in rural Guatemalan homes.
These improved stoves do more than reduce emissions—they tackle one of Guatemala’s most urgent public health challenges: indoor air pollution from open-fire cooking. According to the World Health Organization, over 4,000 premature deaths occur in Guatemala each year due to exposure to smoke from traditional open fires, with women and children being the most affected.
By acquiring certified carbon credits that match our emissions, we’ll directly benefit around 14 families, showing that climate action and community well-being can—and must—go hand in hand.
We invite all REMOTERS to join us. You can offset your own flight emissions through a program of your choice or support the installation of clean cookstoves for families in Guatemala.

REMOTE Legacy Antigua: A community gathering for responsible tourism
As part of REMOTE’s ongoing commitment to creating a positive impact in every destination we visit, we’re proud to present the 6th edition of REMOTE Legacy—a series of free talks in Spanish, co-created with and for local communities. This time, we’re honored to partner with CAMTUR (Cámara de Turismo de Guatemala).
With the theme “Embracing Synergy in Tourism”, our guest speakers will share their knowledge and experiences to inspire local travel professionals, students and community members to engage more effectively in the tourism industry.
Sustainable and responsible tourism thrives on dialogue and collaboration between the private sector, public authorities, academic researchers and civil society—including indigenous communities, newcomers who embrace new homelands and travelers themselves. Our talks aim to spark inspiration among all those who contribute to this intricate tourism network.
REMOTE Legacy Antigua will be held at Iglesia de San José El Viejo on May 21st, from 9 AM to 12 PM. The event is free and open to everyone not participating in the business meetings.
