Ten Years of REMOTE Latin America: A Decade of Orgullo Latino

June 16, 2026

Last month, gathered in Boquete, Panama, for the 10th edition of REMOTE Immersion, we took the opportunity to celebrate something larger than a single event: a full decade of our collective Latin journey. But the celebration doesn’t end there. We want to share this milestone with everyone who couldn’t be with us in Panama, because 2026 is a year of pride for all of us.

Ten years ago, REMOTE Latin America was born from a simple belief: that tourism has the power to strengthen territories and cultures, forge lasting relationships, and change how the world sees Latin America.

We set out to design the smallest travel show to create the biggest connections — always prioritizing intimacy over scale, quality over quantity, and the human element above all else.

What followed was a decade of unveiling extraordinary places across Latin America, fostering unforgettable encounters and lasting bonds, and building a community of passionate, forward-thinking, independent travel professionals who choose, edition after edition, to show up, connect, and believe in something bigger than business.

Together, we share our pride in Latin America and our love for tourism that truly transforms lives and territories for the better.

This is the story of those ten years.

From the Amazon to Boquete: A Journey Through Ten Editions

It all began in 2016 on the waters of the Brazilian Amazon: a boat, 100% offline, and 93 travel professionals who didn’t yet know they were building something ahead of its time. The early planning sessions took place at founder Roberto Bitelman’s family home in São Paulo: informal, relaxed, and intimate, just as REMOTE has always aimed to be.

From that first edition, REMOTE set the tone: intimate, intentional, off the beaten path, and deeply rooted in Latin America.

In 2017, we sailed the pristine waterways of Chilean Patagonia, departing from Punta Arenas, for the inaugural REMOTE Immersion, welcoming travel designers from around the world. It was also the year we gained the invaluable support of two trusted friends and advisors: Clark Kotula in the United States and Simon Heyes in Europe.

In 2018, we touched dry land for the first time in Las Catalinas, Costa Rica — our first edition in Central America. Our content sessions took on a stronger curatorial identity with Daniel Nunes and were renamed REMOTE Talks.

In 2019, we fell in love with Barichara, Colombia, where we also launched REMOTE Legacy: our commitment to giving back to the communities that open their doors to us.

The pandemic brought us indoors and online in 2020 and 2021, but even through screens, the community held.

When we finally reunited in person in Cafayate, Argentina, in 2022, the joy was unmistakable. Then came Cuenca, Ecuador, in 2023, where we launched our first structured sustainability strategy. In 2024, we returned to Chile for the first time, discovering Puyehue in the breathtaking Lakes and Volcanoes region.

And in 2025, we challenged ourselves to host two events, welcoming more REMOTERS while staying true to the intimacy that defines us.

We landed in charming Antigua, Guatemala, in May, surrounded by historic landscapes and Mayan culture, then ventured to Chapada dos Veadeiros, Goiás, Brazil, in October — returning home to celebrate and shine a light on the magical, little-known Brazilian Cerrado.

Each destination left its mark. Each edition deepened the bonds. We are deeply grateful for every place that welcomed us with open arms, for so much shared and so much learned.

Boquete, Panama: Celebrating the Milestone

In May 2026, we gathered in Boquete, Panama for what was our most meaningful and emotional edition yet: the official celebration of REMOTE’s 10th anniversary.

Surrounded by cloud forests and lush geisha coffee plantations, the REMOTE community came together to honor a decade of shared journeys — with laughter, reflection, gratitude, and many plans ahead.

We also celebrated some of the REMOTERS who have been with us throughout this 10-year journey — those who have joined us across 7, 8, 9, or even all 10 editions and helped shape what REMOTE is today.

This community is built by people, and while it’s impossible to recognize everyone individually, it felt important to honor those who have been a constant presence in our story. We call them the REMOTE Pioneers. It was a celebration worthy of ten years of Orgullo Latino.

But we didn’t leave Boquete without looking ahead.

In October 2026, We Land in Peru

As part of our anniversary year, we announced our newest and most intimate event: REMOTE Expedition.

Designed for deeper immersion and an exclusive focus on one destination, Expedition will bring together 25 select DMCs and luxury lodgings alongside 25 invited travel designers in a carefully curated experience unlike anything we’ve done before.

Participants will embark on Fam Trips through distinct, lesser-explored regions of the country before gathering for the REMOTE Expedition Encounter in Valle del Colca, from October 23–30, 2026, where business sessions and conversations will take place.

Ten Years, One Community

It is remarkable to look back and realize that through ten editions, countless destinations, and an ever-changing industry, the heart of REMOTE has remained the same: intentionally intimate and deeply focused on the richest aspects of Latin America: our culture, our people, our biodiversity and the pioneering local initiatives that deserve to be known around the world.

We have grown — not in size, but in experience, depth, and purpose.

To every REMOTER, partner, speaker, sponsor, host, friend, and team member who has been part of this path: thank you. You are the reason REMOTE exists.

If you are just arriving, welcome! The best of Latin America is still waiting to be discovered, together. We hope you’ll join us for what comes next.
