REMOTE IMMERSION 2019

BARICHARA, COLOMBIA

A DREAM IN EL PUEBLITO MÁS LINDO

A charming village up in the mountains, with amazing natural surroundings and a vibrant local community that lives and breathes art and craftsmanship. The unique atmosphere of Barichara, in northern Colombia, was the perfect setting for the fourth REMOTE Immersion, which we consider our most state-of-art small-scale travel gathering so far.

Crafted entirely by hand in a town of just 7,000 inhabitants that had never hosted an event of this scale, the event stood out for its seamless blend of dreamlike scenery and respectful, community-based tourism. Building on lessons from previous editions, the Production Team delivered excellence in logistics — from lodging and transportation to curated activities organized in small groups for outdoor, cultural and culinary experiences.

In a town with no large hotels or auditoriums — like all REMOTE’s host destinations, we adapted creatively to the existing infrastructure, thanks to strong partnerships with highly capable local providers like Nahbu. Participants embraced the opportunity to share charming inns and private villas. Meanwhile, local residents welcomed REMOTERS with an impressive array of authentic experiences, from paper workshops and cooking classes to rafting and mountain biking.

A fleet of tuk-tuks was hired to coordinate transfers from the moment participants arrived, after a scenic four-hour drive through the dramatic Chicamocha Canyon from Bucaramanga, the nearest major city in Santander. Tuk-tuks also transported people from their accommodations to meetings, dining and venues for content sessions. Yet many preferred to explore on foot — strolling along the cobblestone streets lined with whitewashed houses and red-tiled roofs, discovering why Barichara is known as el pueblito más lindo de Colombia.
